Social Responsibility

Support for education from the Sancak student residences. As part of our library refurbishment work, we restock the shelves of village schools and public libraries in need every year with books donated by our students and graduates.

Through the Sancak Education Scholarship we award full and half accommodation scholarships to students in need every academic year. Assessment is based on financial circumstances and academic achievement, with identities kept confidential.

After the 2023 earthquakes we provided free accommodation for three academic years to students from the disaster area; the programme is still running.

Awareness of global warming; the efficient use of resources and recycling, is applied as a corporate standard across all our residences.

The switch to LED lighting is complete across our residences, and motion-sensor lighting is used in the common areas. Collection points for waste batteries, paper and plastic are available on every floor.

With water-saving fittings and central heating automation that responds to the outside temperature, we measure, report and reduce our energy use every year. Our goal for 2026 is to complete rooftop solar installations at our Istanbul residences.

What in this life could make you happier than a child’s smile? At Sancak Student Residences we run a regular programme of support with children’s homes.

The Sancak Volunteers club, founded by our students, organises visits to children’s homes, toy and stationery drives and end-of-term gift campaigns throughout the year.

Donations collected at our residences around 23 April and the new year are delivered as school kits to children from families in need.

On special occasions, to the student performers at our residences we provide stage, equipment and organisational support.

Music recitals, theatre evenings and photography exhibitions are held in the residences throughout the year; our students’ work is displayed in our common areas.

Through our agreements with city theatres and concert halls we offer our students discounted tickets, and we organise at least two group cultural outings each term.

Football, swimming, trekking, paintball and many more events besides, we make sure our students enjoy a residence life closely bound up with sport.

Our inter-residence five-a-side football and basketball tournaments are held every term; the winning teams collect their trophies at the end-of-term awards night.

With nature walks on Uludağ and Aydos in spring and swimming days and camps in summer, sport is a natural part of life at Sancak.

Academic success is a responsibility that goes beyond accommodation. During exam periods our study halls run around the clock with extra capacity, and tea and coffee are provided free of charge.

Career talks and internship meet-ups with Sancak graduates are held every term; our network of more than 6,000 graduates opens doors for our students.

Our guidance team offers one-to-one support on study techniques, exam anxiety and choosing a course.

We never forget our four-legged friends. Until now our shelter visits took place at certain times of year; we have put them on a regular schedule.

There are food and water stations around our residence buildings; on cold winter days we build shelter boxes for street animals together with our students.

A shelter visit is organised every term; food donations are delivered in person by our student volunteers.

We’re all under the same Sancak. We bring together students from different cities, universities and departments in a single culture of belonging.

With start-of-term welcome evenings, traditional iftar and breakfast tables and holiday gatherings, our residences live as real communities.

Our student representative system carries every student’s voice into management meetings; decisions are taken together.
